Wednesday Life Points: How to Network at Meet and Greets

I had the opportunity to visit FAIRE, a very nice restaurant and bar, for a networking event put on by Avance Enterprise. While there, I had the opportunity to meet models, photographers, a wig specialist and stylist, other bloggers, stylist and personal shoppers, and real estate agents.

When meeting new people there are several rules or tips to consider. Here they are:

1. Be approachable. No one wants to talk to the person who looks uninviting. Be presentable. Smile. Give a compliment. Make introductions.

2. Ask questions and then listen to the anwer. If you go on and on about yourself, no one's going to want to be around you. So ask a question, listen carefully to the answer, and come up with a great follow up.

3. Be resourceful. Maybe there is something this person offers that you can use: advise, a service, a product, etc.

4. Don't force it. Try to be as comfortable as possible, this will make the other person comfortable.

5. Be memorable and useful. If you took the time to be resourceful, you're going to want this person to contact you or at least respond to your attempts of reaching out. Have something to offer, be it a common interest, a coveted method of how to organize you life, your wardrobe, or your workout routines. Make them want you.

6. Be fearless. Don't be shy to make the first approach. Step out and stand out. Take a deep breath and sell yourself (not your business).

Until next time,
