Make Me Over Monday: My Crochet Braid Experience

I had wanted to try this hairstyle for a while now, but I'm no stranger to this method. A friend had suggested the style a while back. I was unsure of how to install it until I asked for my mother's help. She told me the method and it was as if a light bulb had turned on. This style had been in my hair once upon a time.

In my youth I wanted braids and lacked my usual patience to sit still for a head full of Micros. My mom latch hooked those braids in with a latch hook and a few packs of already braided hair. This is why I was so confused about the method. Everyone keeps saying crochet braides, and I'm imagining someone with a crochet needle attaching a row of stitches to someone's scalp. Wrong terminology but I understand. Only the craft savvy would understand.

So, I take a crack at it with some basic Marley hair, that the lovely Kim Coles referred. I purchased 5 bags and split each pack of hair in half. I rodded each piece of hair and dipped them into boiling water, just as she suggested. I put every strand in my hair. Wrong move. I ended up wit a fro instead of just curls.

I tried to figure out where I went wrong. I took some of the hair out. Put it back in at a different length. I just couldn't get it right. As the week progressed, I took the hair out and didn't put as much in.  Success!

 Until next time,
