Putting Family First: Child Abuse Prevention Month

Along with Autism Awareness, this month is also Child Abuse Prevention Month. That's very coincidental to me. I think children with disabilities are more susceptible to abuse than others.

The Project Enlightenment in Raleigh is doing an awareness program to support.

Project Enlightenment is an organization that provides a unique blend of quality services to young children, families, and teachers in the Wake County community.
Child Abuse Prevention Month-  April was first declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by presidential proclamation in 1983. Since then, April has been a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse. Project Enlightenment is raising awareness by planting a pinwheel garden along the front of our building that faces Boylan Avenue. The pinwheels are certain to catch the eye of passersby and in turn hope to raise awareness regarding the ongoing issue of child abuse in our country. Please visit the Prevent Child Abuse website at http://www.preventchildabuse.org and /or visit the North Carolina chapter at www.preventchildabusenc.org to learn more about how you can help in the effort to prevent child abuse.

Until next time,
