My good friend Kyra comes and kidnaps me from my hubby and the little people. Oh-No! This isn't the dark part! If anything, she's a saint for getting me out of there. I needed a break.
We had plans, but unfortunately they were cancelled. No worries! Let's head to the mall. I may be an adult, but this was always my favorite pastime as a kid. My mother called me and my friends Mall Rats. I prefer the term Mall Brats. I could spend hours, days even, roaming around the shops and kiosks. I love the smell of Cinnabon in the air. Did I say I love the mall? No? Then let me declare it, "I LOVE THE MALL!" Where were we? Oh yes, Kyra and I venture off the Crabtree Valley Mall...during the holiday rush. Good thing we weren't there for gifts. Nope. We went specifically for makeup. We made stops in Sephora, MAC, and Bare Minerals, while avoiding the rows of makeup girls at the counters of Belk.
When we walked into Sephora we looked over a few gift sets, and then Kyra tells me that she's always wanted to try a darker lip. We look around a bit on our own and found a few stains and lipsticks that just weren't the right shade. I decided that we didn't have to roam around in the dark any longer, let's just ask for assistance. When it comes to make up, I don't like to be up-sold, and I don't like to settle... when I'm on a mission, anyway. I know what I'm looking for. Please don't try to change my mind just because you may not carry what I'm looking for, and you need the sale. Either way, we get a nice lady who walks us through her store for a fine quality, highly pigmented, low dollar, dark lip. We end up with a glossy Lip Tar that has everything we're looking for. Did I mention that Kyra has never worn a dark shade?
We skip over to MAC so Kyra can give the color a try. I love it. She's not so sure that she's into it. Matter of fact I know she's uncomfortable with it. I said to her that she could remove the lipstick if she doesn't like it. Her response was along the lines of her getting used to the color especially since she already purchased it. I chuckled and agreed.
Our last stop was Bare Minerals. I wanted try their new liquid foundation. This is where we meet Frederick, a man who knows the beauty of finding a matching color, and blending it until the wheels fall off. I found my perfect shade. Kyra did the same. Frederick made her as comfortable as possible and had her looking absolutely flawless. He even found her a blush she loved. We enjoyed him. His work even made the lip color look better. He also does private work. Visit him at the Bare Minerals in Crabtree and find your shade.
I must say, Kyra's look is complete when she adds the other elements. I'm hoping she loves the color. If not, send it my way.
Do you remember your first experience with a dark shade? Do you have a photo? Please share the link and your favorite dark shade.
Until next time,
