I have to say, Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays. 1) It's the beginning of summer 2) My husband's family gathers for a party like no other to remember his father and 3) it's an extremely honored day for service men and women who have given their lives to protect this country.
Our #MDW consisted of family fun right here in Raleigh.
May 21st
A not so POOL PARTY and #RedNoseDay: The pool at my apartment complex opened for the season with a bang...or at least a fizzle. They celebrated Memorial Day that Thursday to make sure that the tenants could use the facilities during the holiday. The temperature outside didn't really promote swimming. Brrrrr. But, the festivities were awesome, none the less. There were games, raffles, music, pleanty of food, and tons of neighbors.
May 21st was also #RedNoseDay. Our family purchased two in preperation of the day, and to support the cause(s). Tre had loads of fun with the nose and pretending to be a clown. Hey buddy, who says you aren't? I wore mine as well. It's never too early to show your children to give back.

A visitor arrives!: Company arrived in the middle of the night on the 21st, so Tre and Lilly awoke to a friendly visitor. The last time we saw Omari (Tre's friend from New Jersey), Tre was heart broken and in tears after his departure for home. Tre kept crying out, "My friend! I need my friends!" Of course he started school shortly afterwards. Anyway, we kicked things off with fresh air, sunshine, and the playground.

An evening in the pool!: After much nagging and begging, we made it out to the pool. It was still COLD but, I made a promise and a little boy wouldn't let me forget. So, down we went. Everyone was suited and booted. Even baby Stacie donned a two piece, No, she didn't get in the water.
After the pool, we returned home and ate pancakes until the little people passed out.

We had a pancake brunch, said goodbye to our guest, and set out for the #WRALFreedomBalloonFest. It was a gorgeous day and this outing was perfect. I've never seen a hot air balloon so up close before. It was wonderful and magical. Tre wasn't feeling it at first. He begged to go home. Once I calmed him down and distracted him with counting the amount of balloons rather than focusing on their size and the sound of the pilot firing up the gas.
The lines for the food trucks were terrible! I'm hoping next year, they invite a few more trucks to the Balloon Fest. We watched others take balloon rides, and sat on our blanket for a mini picnic while the balloons did their "glow" (when the pilots burn out the rest of the fuel and their balloons glow in the dark). It was spectacular.

Memorial Day was spent with hot dogs, rest, and reflection. We will always remember those who have sacrificed themselves for us.
Until next time,
