My son has discovered YouTube Kids. A place chock full-o-kid friendly content. From Nick Jr. programming to a falling domino set that's shaped to look like the alphabet. I must admit that he's learning quite a bit, and he's having fun while doing so. It keeps him quiet and seated. It provides as entertainment when boredom hits in the food court of the mall. It's a real life saver, but I'm worried that things are getting out of hand.
As soon as he wakes up, he runs to my room to ask for the device. My reaction is usually, "go back to bed" or "go clean your room" and of course the ever popular, "no!" I'm trying to get him to understand that I'm limiting his time on the internet. He needs to color or read or something else, but watching YouTube "ain't" it.
I'm trying to make him see that the phones and tablets are privileges, not requirements. They can be with held or taken away. So, I'm considering making him earn his tablet time. I've taken a cue (and a free printable) from Your Modern Family to help in the process.
They give a list of to do's that the child must complete in order to use the phone or tablet. SMART! So, why not try it?
To my mommy readers, do you issues with your child/ren and devices? I want you to share a pic of your kid and their WiFi suckers. Tag me @TenishaJonece
