Family First: Tre's First Day of Kindergarten....well....sort of.

In this installment of Family First, this past Tuesday was Tre's first, err, ummm, day of school. Maybe. The school has something called staggered entry. Every child entering kindergarten will have the opportunity to come to school, see what it's like, meet the "kindergarten team", and see what a normal day of class is like, just for one day. Then they come back the following week for their first OFFICIAL day of kindergarten.

Tre's first day of Kindergarten was enjoyable... says his teacher. He was so excited that he almost forgot to tell Cornell and myself goodbye. I was hurt. I cried on my way out. His special education teacher caught me on the way out and told me that he will have a fantastic time, and how, "We haven't lost one yet." Well, thank God you haven't lost a child!

I calmed down right after we left, went home for a little bit, and then returned to the school at 1:54ish to wait for his 3:05 release. I and my Glamour magazine sat outside and we beat the carpool lane. We were 5th in line! I see him coming out of the building. The prodigal son had returned to his mamma! I ask him how his day was. I starts with, "My day was..." and then he never said a thing afterwards. I tried to help him talk to me by playing our game, fill in the blanks. I'd start the sentence, "Today at school I met a new....." He didn't answer. "I ate my lunch and played outside with....." Nothing. "Today you took a nap at the...." Nope, nada.

Here we are, two days later, and he's ready to share his wisdom and knowledge about kindergarten. Apparently, he had a fantastic time.

Now, I'm waiting for Monday. He'll be taking transportation but I'll be stalking following him to see his route and to wish him a great first, first day of school.

Until next time,
