Kenya Dolls Are Back!

Hello All!

I'm still in the hospital, recovering, and wanted to go home . . . Badly! I miss my kids :(

While enjoying my "free time" I had a chance to catch up on the latest tv commercials. I just saw an ad for Kenya dolls. Kenya dolls?! What?! This African American dolls came out in the 90's. I absolutely loved mine when I was a kid. Her beaded hair and bright clothing set her apart from any other ethnic Barbie that lived in my toy chest. Heck, what am I saying? My Kenya doll never saw the inside of that toy dungeon. She lived in the lap of luxury. Tea parties during the day, and Micheal Jackson Dance competitions at night were our lives. We were inseparable until I turned 6. We were on two different levels by then. Her curly hair that wore very afro-centric do's, and her choice in "traditional" African printed clothing created a line between us. While my black Barbie was willing to switch up her style as I was getting my first kiddie perm, my Kenya doll was sticking to her roots.

I eventually chopped off her beautiful hair and hid her away in my toy graveyard.

Now with her triumphant return (just in time for my own daughter to enjoy the wonder of a Black doll), I feel the need to celebrate and purchase two of these great dolls (one for Lilly and one for myself).
