The First Week of Pre-K: The Ups and the DOWN! |
This was quite an eventful week. Tre started preschool, among other things. Apparently everything about it was awesome (Cue the music for "Everything is Awesome") except for one major detail.
We've been prepping Tre mentally for months so he wouldn't be surprised or anxious about his first day of school. When the time came to send him off for his first day, he was more than ready. He was actually begging to go. Tre informed us that before he can attend, we all need to make a trip to "The Backpack Store." I've never heard of its existence, but Tre insisted that we had to go.
With backpack in tow, we made off for his first day!

Tre had a fantastic first day of school. His teacher said that he played with the other children outside, and pushed a few of them around in the Playschool coupes (He's too tall to ride inside of one). When I went to pick him up, he was covered in glitter and sand. What a wonderful combination. I'll be cleaning this up for weeks. He ate his snack and then it was time to say good bye. He hated that the day had to end. He demanded that the other students couldn't leave and that the teacher wasn't allowed to go home. It was a fight to get him into the car and he fussed about not wanting to go home.
I made him a deal. We could go to the library if he calmed down. I have a kid with ASD. I believe I'm allowed to use a bribe or two. (Technically, you receive a coupon book with about ten-thousand bribe vouchers inside when your child gets diagnosed. Your coupon subscription renews every year)
While there, we found a fabulous NEW book!: Once Upon an Alphabet: Short Stories for All the Letters by Oliver Jeffers. I recommend this as a read for

The following day, he had an appointment with his Neurologist. So obviously he didn't attend school. Wednesday (the next day) he returned to school and was so excited to be reunited with his "new friends". Thursday was the same. But what Tre doesn't understand yet is that his class will not meet on Fridays.
NOW FOR THE MAJOR DOWNER:
Friday is here and we're enjoying one another's company....Ha! Kids are not company! And then it happens: A cough and a sneeze. At first I didn't think anything of it. He was fine until a few friends came over. One friend asked if he was sick. I responded with, "Nooo!" Two nights later, Tre, the Gilmore Girls, and myself are hosts to one nasty germ fest.Pic of sick kids The First Week of Pre-K: The Ups and the DOWN! |
Thanks a bunch Pre-K!!!! It's now a mess. We may even miss Thanks Giving! It comes with the territory, I suppose. At least we have plenty of time to read Once Upon an Alphabet: Short Stories for All the Letters by Oliver Jeffers ... over and over again. The first 4 times were awesome. When you get to the 15th time, call me.
SOMEONE PLEASE PASS THE DAYQUIL!
Do you have any first day/week of school stories to share? I really want to know in the comments below.
Until next time,
